Sleep Tests
Our dental office can help with sleep apnea and snoring!
Sleep apnea is a common disorder where your breathing is shallow or is completely interrupted or stopped while sleeping. These interruptions can happen multiple times an hour, continuing through the entire night, and can last a few seconds up to several minutes. Typically, normal breathing resumes, but a snorting or choking sound comes first.
Shallow or interrupted breathing results in poor sleep and can cause tiredness throughout the day because your body isn’t able to get the deep, restorative sleep it needs.
Sleep apnea risk factors include:
- High blood pressure
- Being overweight
- Acid reflux
- Snoring
- Family history of sleep apnea
- Grinding or clenching your teeth at night
- Neck circumference of 17” for males or 16” for females
Do you have one or more of these concerns? Find out if you’re at risk of sleep apnea.

What Does Getting Sleep Tests Involve?
Sleep apnea is an ongoing condition that will not resolve on its own. Luckily, treatment is simple and does not change much about your nightly routine! The first step is to have a one-night, at-home sleep study to determine the severity of the situation. If you have a recent sleep study from another source, we can review that and discuss options.
Ideal Image’s sleep tests are performed in the comfort of your bed. Our one-night home sleep study uses a device to record your:
- Heart Rate
- Oxygen Levels
- Snoring
- Body Position
The results from this study will tell us the severity of your sleep apnea and if your snoring is more than just noise!
Discussing Treatment Options
Once we analyze your results, we will discuss the best treatment, or combination of treatments, for your situation. Treatments are customizable and can be used together or individually. For example, a sleep retainer may be used with a CPAP to help reduce pressure and keep your airway open.
CPAP
A CPAP machine is a continuous positive airway pressure machine that uses mild air pressure to keep breathing airways open while you sleep. A physician gives you a CPAP machine and it is adjusted over time to improve your sleep.
Sleep Retainer
Sleep retainers are a great addition or alternative to your CPAP therapy. They can improve sleep quality by providing better oxygen flow to reduce snoring. Our sleep retainers are custom-fit, ensuring a slim, sleek design that’s comfortable to wear. Using digital impressions, a dental lab makes your retainer and provides it to our Bismarck-Mandan office in as little as two weeks!
Laser Therapy
Ideal Image utilizes laser therapy to provide rapid relief for patients who snore. By gently tightening tissue in your soft palate and reducing vibrations that cause you to snore, this simple non-surgical procedure will quickly improve your sleep quality. Unlike surgical procedures that require long and painful recoveries, laser therapy is a quick, comfortable procedure that is completed in one visit. A single treatment should provide relief for a year or longer.
